Safety Sitter ProgramThe Monterey County Regional Fire District in cooperation with the Monterey County Lyceum offers a Safety Sitter class for kids between the ages of 10-15. It is designed for new babysitters or kids who may be spending time home alone. The classes are held at the District’s Fire Stations. To sign up for a class you can contact the Lyceum at (831) 372-6098.
Character ProgramMonterey County Regional Fire District started the Characters Program in 2003 to educate our youth about life safety and fire prevention. Our Characters Program is composed of firefighters who have a knack for demonstrating fire and life safety with an effective and zany approach, using props and costumes, appealing to “kids” of all ages. Our motivation is based on our experience in caring for sick and injured children in often tragic situations, recognizing that the worst accident is the one that could have been prevented with a little education. Monterey County Regional Fire District’s Characters Program educates children through the use of entertaining and interactive characterization. Some of the topics covered are:
The Characters Program works with schools within our fire district and participates in children’s safety fairs throughout Monterey County. Dale Williams - (831) 484 -1197 or dwilliams@mcrfd.org Community Emergency Responce Team (CERT)The main goal of the CERT program is to train the citizens of Monterey County Regional Fire District to be self-sufficient in a major disaster by developing skills that will allow them to help themselves and there neighbors with basic emergency skills. The program can be tailored to meet your needs. The training is conducted for civic groups, homeowner associations, Schools, business etc. The minimum size class is 15 students with a maximum of 30.

Explorer ProgramExplorer Post #55 The Monterey County Regional Fire District in cooperation with the Boy Scouts of America established Explorer Post #55 in 1995. The purpose is to expose local youth to a positive program, while training for a career in the Fire Service. The goal is to provide each explorer with an opportunity to experience Fire District operations, adult leadership and encouragement to succeed in their education. Explorer Post #55 has 12 positions for high school students ranging in ages from 14 to 19 years of age. The program operates under guidelines set forth under a Standard Operating Procedure approved by Fire Chief Michael Urquides. All rules and regulations are approved by the Boy Scouts Of America.
