Fire Prevention Specialist Matthew Lumadue was born in Santa Clara, California and moved to Santa Cruz in 1985 where he has lived since.  He graduated from SLV high School in 1992 and obtained his AA degree from Cabrillo College. After Graduation, Matthew went to work for the California State Parks as a Forestry Aide.  There he learned about fire behavior, fuels management, and gained basic firefighting knowledge.

It was during a prescribed burn that Matthew was approached by CAL FIRE with an opportunity to become a Firefighter.  He worked and trained on a fire engine for eight fire seasons before going to work for the Fire Prevention Bureau.  Matthew spent another eight years performing Defensible Space Inspections, and teaching fire prevention to the public.

Working in cooperation with other local agencies, Matthew had the chance to meet some of the people within Monterey County Regional Fire District, and quickly became interested in the possibility of a new opportunity.  Matthew truly enjoys teaching the public about fire safety and preparedness.  In his free time, Matthew enjoys walks with his dog Payton, mountain biking, snowboarding and art.
